Welcome to our first blog post! We hope that you’ll find this blog to be a place where Honors students, staff, faculty and friends of the program can have a voice, provide program updates, and display personal achievements.

Since our first post is happening about a month into the summer, we figured you would want to know what we’re up to this summer. Although fewer students are coming into the office, we are still busy with long-term projects and annual administrative duties.

The first week of June always consists of our annual portfolio review. Students in our program create electronic portfolios (efolios) throughout their time in the program. They begin their creation in their FYEX or Introduction to Honors course, receive annual feedback, and culminate their time in the program with an upper level portfolio course and a defense of their competency achievement. You’ll certainly learn more about our efolios in subsequent blog posts! The annual portfolio review is an exciting time for Honors faculty and staff to gather together and read all of our students’ accomplishments over the past year. You can view some of our best student portfolios on the Honors website. Honors staff is also hard at work compiling this year’s annual report and updating our student handbook.

The most exciting aspect of our summer is the opportunity to welcome new students to the program! Incoming first-year students have begun their orientation sessions. The first Honors orientation session is next week, and we are thrilled to welcome our new cohort of highly motivated students to campus and to our program.

As always, we are extremely proud of all that our students are participating in this summer! Our students are out in the world gaining research experience, job shadowing in their fields, studying abroad, participating in service learning and practicum experiences, and working summer jobs. We hope they’ll blog about their summer experiences in the fall!

Don’t forget to like us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter for more up-to-date information about the program and our students – you can do this on the right side of this webpage.

Have a great summer! Go Mavericks!

Your Honors Staff (Dr. Corley, Ginny, Sadie, and Ashley)
